To ensure a comfortable fit and the correct positioning, your dress socks should always be sized, because no one’s feet are “one size fits all.” At Fort Belvedere, we proudly offer all of our dress socks in five sizes, from Small to Extra Extra Large.

To determine your size, use our accompanying size chart. We have also made a video tutorial to aid you in finding exactly the right size for your foot, taking into consideration personal preferences like desired tightness or looseness.

When your new socks arrive, they will appear large, but this is because they will shrink to the perfect size in the wash.

If you buy multiple socks, wash and then dry one pair first to double-check fit before shrinking all of the socks in the order.

The Finest Cotton

  • 100% Extra-Long-Staple Cotton. Our yarn is made in Italy from Egyptian ELS cotton with fibres over 33/35mm / 1.3" in length. This yields in a durable, naturally shiny yarns, which is perfect for our socks.
  • Manually Harvested Cotton. While it is more costly to pick cotton by hand, it also comes with a few benefits: 1. It avoids impurities 2. Cotton can be picked at the perfect degree of ripeness. 3. It avoids the use of defoliants which is harmful to humans
  • 2-ply Twisted Yarn. Twisting the cotton creates a lustrous and highly-resistant yarn which increases the longevity of the socks.
  • Flame treated Yarn. All yarns are flame-treated to burn off any fuzziness you may know from flannel. The result of this process leads to a brilliant yarn, uniformity in color as well as resistance to pilling.
  • Mercerized Cotton. Our yarn is mercerized which makes the socks more abrasion resistant and therefore they last longer.
  • Yarn-Dyed with Oeko-Tex 100 Dye. Our yarns are yarn-dyed, meeting the Oeko-Tex 100 standard, and because our cotton is highly absorbant we can use 35% fewer chemicals than regular cotton.

How to Care For Your Socks

  • Your socks arrive with a green tag attached. To remove it, simply pull on the loose green thread.
  • Do not use a knife or scissors as you could accidentally damage the fabric.
  • Initially, your socks may appear large or loose. They will shrink in the wash.
  • Wash your socks either by hand or machine with appropriate detergent.
  • The temperature should be Warm or 30°C -40°C / 86°F-104°F.
  • Put them in a little wash bag so it's easier to pair them afterwards and to avoid bruising the fabric.
  • Ideally, you pull them in shape and you let them air dry.
  • Why not put them in a dryer? Anything you put in the dryer will not last as long as it could if it was air-dried. Yes, we get it. It's more convenient and our socks should be able to handle the dryer every once in a while, but if you want to get the most of your socks, do not dry them regularly.
  • For best results, fully extend the socks and allow them to air dry.

Why Over-the-Calf Matters

Few things will ruin the look of an otherwise sharp business outfit more quickly than short socks, because they will inevitably become saggy and baggy while exposing your legs. Traditional over-the-calf dress socks don’t have this issue as their length helps them stay up all day.
